Sheryl Mousley is currently curator of film/video programs at the Walker Art Center and joined the Walker staff in 1998. She has a B.A. in Film Studies, Film Production, and Arts Administration from Metropolitan State University (1979) and has completed graduate study coursework in Film Studies at the University of Minnesota (1989-1990).From 1992 to 1998 she also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Independent Feature Project/North as Program Committee Chair and President. Also as a member of the Executive Advisory Committee for the Minnesota Independent Feature Fund, Mousley advised on funding for the development of independent feature films in Minnesota.
From 1990-1995 Mousley was Manager of Programming and Review at ITVS. She developed funding initiatives for independent film producers resulting in the production of more than 100 television programs and 12 series on subjects ranging from poetry to HIV. In addition she developed children's television programming initiatives to create new educational programming for youth and teens; presided over the awarding of grants to independent media producers; facilitated peer-panel review of proposals; and represented ITVS at conferences, film festivals, and public presentations. Mousley has held visiting artist and adjunct faculty positions at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1987 1989); served as Associate Producer for the KTCA-TV and The Learning Channel's co-production of the 13-part series "Spirit of Place" (1988); and was Director of Education and Film Instructor at Film in the Cities, St. Paul (1977 1983), where she created an accredited two-year associate degree curriculum. Her work as a filmmaker has included short film diaries and a work-in-progress documenting adults reading from their teenage diaries.
