Centers and Collaboratives

The following centers and collaboratives at the University of Minnesota have been important for the sponsoring and organizing of film conferences at the university. They are important as institutions that can give financial support for the furthering of film studies and the organizing of events, as well as places in which scholars and faculty can meet and exchanges ideas regarding film and film studies.

Center for Austrian Studies

The Center for Austrian Studies serves as a focal point in the United States for the study of Austria and Central European lands with a common Habsburg heritage across disciplines in the humanities, the social sciences, the applied sciences, and the fine arts.

Center for German and European Studies

The Center for German and European Studies is a consortium of the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) and the University of Wisconsin (Madison). Established in 1998 with major funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and matching funds from the two universities, CGES is one of only five such centers supported by the DAAD in the United States and the only one located in the Midwest.

European Studies Consortium

The European Studies Consortium (ESC) at the University of Minnesota was established in the spring of 1999 in recognition of the University's growing strengths in European Studies. Its purpose is to promote and support inquiry into Europe related issues that engage scholars across disciplinary and collegiate borders.

Institute for Advanced Study

The Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota brings together exciting new work across the university community and provides a place where faculty and students can meet informally for discussions with one another and for more structured presentations, concerts, and conversations.

Asian Film Collaborative

The Asian Film Collaborative considers the historically produced concept of Asian film with an eye toward the ways in which it has both guided and limited the production and reception of film from Asia through bi-weekly screenings, workshops, an Asian Film Collaborative website, and panel discussions. The Asian Film Collaborative is organized by the Institute for Advanced Study.

Film Collaborative

The Film Collaborative seeks to foster the research and creative work of its members, which is a coalition of scholars, critics, artists, and filmmaking professionals devoted to the appreciation, study, research, and practice of cinema. The Film Collaborative is organized by the Institute for Advanced Study.

Institute for Global Studies

Through the Institute for Global Studies, the College of Liberal Arts is ensuring that the community of scholars at the University of Minnesota has the opportunity to investigate sets of interrelated processes forming today's increasingly interdependent world.
