Wilson Library has an extensive collection of print literature including books and journals on virtually every aspect of film studies. Consult library staff for assistance in locating special collections and materials.

Furthermore, it is strongly recommended that you consult the exceptional resources available on-line at www.lib.umn.edu.
As a university student, you have easy access free of charge to a whole range of indexes and databases available online that deal with film studies.

The following sites are examples of some of the major online resources at in the Indexes and Databases section of www.lib.umn.edu.

Film and Video Search:

The libraries have some 6,000+ DVDs and VHS cassettes in the Learning Resource Center in Walter Library (and about 5,000 in other campus libraries). Instructors can check these out for classes and students are welcome to view them in the library. The LRC adds an average of 20-30 feature films each month (for a sampling, see www.lib.umn.edu/journalism/newfilms.phtml, scroll down for links to feature films).

AFIC American Film Institute Catalogue:

The AFI Catalog documents information on every feature-length film produced in America or financed by American production companies from 1893 to 1970. The catalog provides information on over 45,000 films including more than 17,500 made in the early years of film from 1893 to 1910. Date of indexing starts in 1865 (The Nation), although more recent is more common (example: Film and History, 1970 - present, or Journal of Popular Film and Television, 1990 - present). JSTOR:

Index to JSTOR, full text academic journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. JSTOR provides complete journal backruns from the date of initial publication up to a date defined, on a publisher by publisher basis, by a "moving wall". The moving wall is a fixed period of time ranging, in most cases, from 2 to 5 years, that defines the gap between the most recently published issue and the date of the most recent issues available in JSTOR. Remote access available for University of Minnesota -- Twin Cities students, staff, and faculty.

E-Journals Search:

Through this link it is possible to make a search for the rapidly growing resource of scholarly journals on-line, many of which would deal with film studies.
